What do I do...
So far I have mainly focused on family photography, portraits & small businesses. I love photographing families in a documentary style. My favourite photos are not the posed ones but the ones that tell you a little story... A photo which in years to come will take you back to that moment instantly and makes you feel all warm & fuzzy inside...
I take portraits for a variety of purposes but have a slight obsession with making black & white portraits. I love the more dramatic feel of black & white... You can find some examples on one of my instagram accounts.
Over the last few years I have also helped clients create their business websites and social media content. It's very fulfilling to see how my photos can help them tell their story and I LOVE the whole creative process behind it. Check my Personal Branding page for a sneak preview of what is to come. Where does my story begin...
I have been umming & ahhing about this question... don't want to get too serious... but here's the honest answer...
I am Dutch, with an English husband and we have lived abroad for 14 years. I moved back to Holland about 7 years ago and this was quite a big moment. We moved back to Holland because of my dad's passing a few months before. Having been abroad for such a long time I needed to be closer to my family and reconnect with them (and myself I guess...) My life was turned upside down and on top of that we moved our 3 children to my ‘not so much as it used to be' home country... It all felt like a big boom, crash, bang... Everything had changed and there was a kind of 'now or never' feeling... so I finally, after all those years of thinking about it, followed my dream of becoming a professional photographer. Cliches are true... life is too short... I enrolled into a 3 year photography course & soon after slowly started a family photography business. In 2018 one of my personal series was selected for Art Hilversum and I took part in the group exhibition in Museum Hilversum. The feedback was amazing... quite a proud moment! The same series was also selected for New2019. New is a book, a catalogue, featuring the best 100 emerging Dutch photographers annually.
What does the future hold...
To continue documenting all these lovely families out there and keep on focussing on other people's stories. One of my dreams, and I should say goals (!), is to do editorial work. I also would love to create many more personal stories and, who knows, join another art exhibition... I will keep you posted...
